The Creative Possible

The creative mind brings to life possibility, inspiring better living, better selves and the hope of a promising future.

We are each of us creative beings, it depends on which path we choose to hone that becomes our strongest purpose: our central axis that feeds life forward, guided by intuition and intellect.

It is through creative possibility that life expands, influencing politics, architecture, art and language: life as we know it, the future as we need it.

It is not through political law alone that the future will be guided, but the circumvention of government by those who create: building the bridges and shinning the light.

“With the new comes change and challenge, new opportunities and new ways of seeing.”

This is what the future relies upon, the invention of the new and the proliferation of hope. With the new comes change and challenge, new opportunities and new ways of seeing.

The work of ODA Architects are an exemplification of what’s possible. Often their structures have green roofs and court yards within, bringing nature back to our cities.

Their buildings go beyond the utility of defined space and housing people. They are metaphors, indexical signifiers, structural form to the word possible and the emotion of hope. They speak to community, of neighbor and hood, giving rise to what is to come.

In the arena of creativity each faculty has its own offering, but all are tied together by the thread of inspiration, meaning and purpose.

It is the why before the what that I reference most, as it has the longevity. Why we create has different reasons, but mostly falls into the circle of inspiration and change.

In reference to the future, why has its own particular resonance and tone: a fire in the belly, a sounding bell.

Interrelationships

I’m interested in the interrelationship between art, architecture, design and the written word. How they together inform and inspire, evoking emotion and the provocation of action.

How we navigate the contemporary terrain is facilitated by the creative mind, built by the hand, spurred by desire and pulled by hope.

It is how we live within our private spaces that speaks volumes to the way we think, and therefore behave.

“There should not be any boundaries between design,

graphic design, visual arts, and architecture.

  It should all blend together.”

It is my belief that our living spaces have a greater impact on our lives than we think. It is here that our minds are allowed to be clearer, going deeper into ourselves and not just in sleep.

“Life has a way of making us feel small, or is it that we allow it to feel as so.”

Within our private spaces, we live outward our private thoughts, as we usually feel safer cocooned within our own four walls. Life has a way of making us feel small, or is it that we allow it to feel as so.

Our homes allow us to recharge, re-center and calm, giving us the needed boost to rise above what life has in store.

No matter one’s belief system as to how life plays out, immersing ourselves within beauty, and those who inspire is the catapult to change, an elixir, and a means to maneuver the spiraling path onward. This is not a means to an end, nor answer to life’s riddle, but perhaps a surveyor’s tool: a shinning light forward.

“Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

Tennyson

Life has a way of countering our clearest intentions with detours and blockades: full frontal assaults that have us sometimes at a loss. This seems to be where we are today, or perhaps it’s just more of the same as life is never truly smooth sailing.

It depends on our own perspective as to which way life is going. Things have gotten better from the past, but clearly has its overwhelming challenges.

“Sometimes acquiescence is the best way forward: to go with the flow, and see where time leads.”

Perspective is an element of the compass, it aides not only in external direction, but smooths the internal coiling of emotion. Sometimes acquiescence is the best way forward: to go with the flow, and see where time leads.

How we live is a means of navigation, easing the terrain of our days forward. To surround ourselves with beauty, wonder and those who inspire, is to build the map and highlight the path: shining a light for those who follow.

Simplification

It always comes back for me to simplicity, an attempt to counter our frenetic and challenging world: what design can do. We are at a place in time where thought and action need attending, a more intentional approach to living.

How we live privately affects how we live publicly, and certainly vise versa. We are at a crossroads of choice, to be affected or to affect, to find within us the capacity for change, for better living and doing: inspiration and hope.

In this time of uncertainty and division, beauty is the elixir, and support, the anchor. This path of ours is not singular, it’s woven in many directions with other’s layered within.

Though the future is always uncertain, how we live today dents the vessel of tomorrow, slowly forming what is to become.

It is my belief and current challenge, that each of us have the ability to affect the future by how we live today, supporting ourselves as we support others. This is my constant rumination, how can I affect my future while affecting and engaging in the lives of others.

It is here that I have planted myself, in the middle of support and supported: a circular motion of doing, living and inspiration. Design, art, words and architecture. Under this umbrella is where I feel most affective, where the creative mind and action come into play.

Politics aside, though never too far, I feel the necessity to put my own mark onto the surface of life, into how we live and the future I will never see.

“This is how the architecture of time works, many hands, one day at a time.”

Through support and inspiration, the future is malleable: affected by the actions of mind and hand. This is how the architecture of time works, many hands, one day at a time.

There are many organizations and individuals who have the same belief, that in order to affect the future started yesterday, but today is always a good second choice, starting wherever we are. To live better is to do better, has become my mantra, going beyond how I speak, into what I do.

“This is how we enjoy life, how we fill it with meaning and find our own purpose.”

The work of many makers have the intrinsic value to inspire by proxy, by the inspiration of beauty: visual and physical engagement. This is how we enjoy life, how we fill it with meaning and find our own purpose.

Through the endeavors of others, life expands, affecting how we live our lives and view the future.

Engagement and support are the truest efforts in building an inspired life, whether its voting or purchasing work by local makers. A better future evolves from expansive circles of inclusion and support: inspiration, action and hope.
